Hush, Little Baby

So hush little baby, don't you cry, Daddy loves you and so do I.

We are all familiar with the nursery rhyme, "Hush, Little Baby." The last stanza, written above conjurs up the image of a loving parent trying to calm a distressed baby. However, I recently viewed a YouTube video detailing Senator Barack Obama's voting record against the Induced Infant Liability Act while serving as an Illinois legislator. A bill which would have protected babies that survive late-term abortions. That same year, 2002, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act was signed by President George W. Bush. According to an article, written in 2006, by Amanda B. Carpenter, when the federal bill was being debated, "Obama voted against this bill in the Illinois senate and killed it in committee. Twice, the Induced Infant Liability Act came up in the Judiciary Committee on which he served. At its first reading he voted “present.” At the second he voted “no.” He voted "no!" According to the video, babies that survive abortions were being left to die alone, without any care, in "soiled linen" baskets. Perhaps, that is an exaggeration of the details, but the fact remains that children weren't even given the same respect that animals are given when they are put to sleep! Obama voted to ensure that this heinous, and downright evil practice continued.

"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." Matthew 18:1-6

The cartoon above of Barack Obama standing behind a baby, holding a "Live Birth Abortion" sign, and telling God to "keep out of this," appeared in the video I was watching. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, I guess a cartoon can make you speechless. How is it that a man, who claims to be a Christian, taking the name of Jesus Christ as his Savior, can support a practice which brutally ends the lives of the most innocent among us? Personally, I believe it is because this man, Barack Obama, is not a Christian! Now, I know some will say, "How can you say that? Only God knows the heart of the man." This is true and I may be wrong. However, the Bible is clear on when life begins. This is not some debatable topic like the role of water baptism or whether Christians should tithe or not. It is also not an action that was the result of fear or impulse as was the case when Peter denied knowing the Lord. Senator Obama has consistently shown a voting record and a pattern of behavior that represents an unbiblical stance on the issue. We are all familiar with his "above my pay grade" response to the question of when does an unborn child get human rights? He also believes that "we can find common ground" between a pro-life and pro-choice point of view. There is no common ground. Just like with salvation, this is a matter of life and death. It is either an unborn child or it is not. It is either given the chance to live or it is not. We can sit here and discuss until we are blue in the face issues like abstinence, "safe sex," adoption, health of the mother, birth defects and so on. But, all of that avoids the question of when life begins, does that life have rights and does it deserve to live after it avoids death at the hands of an attempted abortion? Jesus said that the person who causes a child to sin should have a stone hung around their neck and drowned! Jesus said these words. And Jesus is God, the embodiment of justice, love and peace. So, if Jesus says a person is unfit to live for causing a child to sin, what does that say to those, like Senator Obama, who allow for the sin of preventing a child the chance to live?

"When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me." They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, "Surely not I?" "It is one of the Twelve," he replied, "one who dips bread into the bowl with me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born." Mark 14:17-21

During the Last Supper, Jesus predicted that He would be betrayed by one of the Twelve disciples. Of course, they all denied it, but we all know that Judas did, indeed, betray Jesus and it lead directly to Christ being crucified on the Cross. And, thank God it happened. Otherwise, our sins would not have been forgiven and salvation through the resurrection of Jesus Christ would not have been made possible. Now, no Christian can betray the Lord quite like Judas, but we can certainly betray Him in how we conduct ourselves as ambassadors of Christ. When we say we are Christians, we are representing more than just the church we attend or the religion we belong to. We are representing Jesus Christ. Now, if Jesus said that anyone who causes a child to sin deserves death, and that it is better not to have been born than to betray Him, what are we doing if we say we don't know when life begins, won't support giving aid to a child who survives an abortion, and believes there is middle ground on the issue? Thankfully, because of His death, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. But calling yourself a Christian and then betraying every word Jesus spoke, when it comes to children, is effectively throwing a millstone around the neck of everybody who agrees with that stance. Many may say that you can't be black and white on the issue of abortion. That there are too many gray areas involved that must be debated on and reasoned over. To which, I say, tell that to the child clinging to life in its mothers womb. There are those who wish to hush the cry of an unwanted child. But, to paraphrase Jesus, "Daddy loves the child and so do I." If supporting abortion is an indication of what is in the heart of a person, my heart goes out to them. Because they don't belong to Jesus and, unless they turn from their unbelief a fate worse than that of an aborted child awaits them. But, until that day comes, there is hope for them because as Jesus said just before he died on the cross, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
