Q: When we are in heaven can we ask God for anything we want for our enjoyment? My intention to ask God for something has absolutely nothing to do with bad, sin and impure.
A: Thank you for your question. I am sure you could ask God for things that are for your enjoyment. However, the question implies that heaven itself, and being in the presence of God, will not be sufficient enough for you. Furthermore, the question you are asking can only originate from your experience here on a fallen Earth in a fleshly body of sin. Therefore, whatever it is you ponder that you might ask God for is originating from your flesh. Are you aware of the fact that right now you are complete in Christ? Ephesians 1:3 says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." 2 Peter 1:3 says, "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." Therefore, at this present time, you have every spiritual blessing and everything you need for life in godliness as an inheritance from God because of your faith in Jesus Christ. The question must be asked, "If you have all this from God what else do you need from Him?" God gave you Himself, in the form of the indwelling Holy Spirit, to meet the deepest desires of your heart.
What does our future hold for us in heaven? A wonderful destiny awaits those who love God. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him." God has something so amazing planned for us in heaven that I seriously doubt we would feel the need to ask for anything for our personal enjoyment. It stands to reason that once we behold the wonder of heaven, and all that God has promised us, that any requests for additional provisions will not be necessary.
The Bible says that God will one day abolish tears and death. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away (Revelation 21:4)." One of the things we ask God for the most is for Him to take away our physical suffering. Imagine how much more enjoyable life would be right now if you did not suffer any pain whether it be physical, mental or emotional. This is what heaven will be like for us.
Jesus said heaven has plenty of room. "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am (John 14:2-3)." Many people pray for God to bless them with better and bigger living accommodations. Some Christians falsely teach that God wants believers to live like kings and queens here on earth. However, Jesus said for us not to store up treasures on earth. One reason He said this may be due to the fact that He is preparing a place for us in heaven.
All our needs will be met in heaven. "Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes (Revelation 7:16-17)." We will not lack anything in heaven. The totality of Jesus Christ is sufficient enough to meet all our needs. That being the case, what need will there be to ask God for anything?
Nothing impure will enter heaven. "Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life (Revelations 21:27)." You made the point that if you asked God for anything in heaven it would not have anything to do with being bad, sinful or impure. Fact is, you will not be able to ask for anything bad, sinful and impure because God will not allow it into heaven. If you think about it, how could heaven be heaven if anything bad, sinful and impure was allowed into it? We see how bad our world is today with these things inhabiting it and nobody would mistake this world for heaven.
We will have glorious resurrection bodies in heaven. "Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands (2 Corinthians 5:1)." How wonderful a promise it is to know that these bodies we struggle with will not follow us into heaven? No more sickness, death, aches, pains, infirmities, limitations and so on to deal with and no need to ask God for relief from these things. All of this will just be given to us out of God's love for us. Rather than asking for things for our enjoyment, we will simply be showering God with thankfulness for all He has freely given us.
Let me encourage you not to wonder what God would allow you to ask from Him in heaven, but to discover all that God has already given you, and promised to you, through your faith in Christ. "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3)." Eternal life is said to be knowing God. In other words, it will take an eternity to know all that God is. That being the case, the most enjoyable thing about heaven will be getting to our God, Jesus Christ. Our questions will be ones of asking God to reveal more of Himself to us which will result in all the enjoyment we can handle. Grace and Peace.
