A Message to Black (All) Christians

"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people (2 Corinthians 6:14-16).”

The video below is a message from Bishop E.W. Jackson entitled, "A Message to Black Christians." I like to think of it as a message to all Christians, specifically to those who vote for and support the Democrat Party.

A few years after I was saved, in 1996, the Holy Spirit started to reveal to me that the truth God promised He would reveal was a lot deeper than just the meaning of the Scriptures. One of the first places I noticed this happening was in my view of politics. I was raised to believe that the Democrat Party was the Party that Black/African-Americans were supposed to support because they were "for Blacks." However, I noticed, at least at the time I was saved, that many of the basic beliefs of the Party did not align with the Bible. Bishop Jackson touches on some of these in the video.

Abortion

"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me (Psalm 51:5)."

Bishop Jackson says that Planned Parenthood has killed unborn babies in the "tens of millions." According to www.blackgenocide.org, "for every two African American women that get pregnant one will choose to abort and that a Black baby is 5 times more likely to be killed in the womb than a White Baby." It is no secret that the Democrat Party has been the primary home of those promoting abortion under the guise of "choice" and a woman's "right to choose." There is absolutely nothing in the Bible that promotes abortion or that says life begins outside the womb. It is truths like this that began my departure from the Democrat Party. In fact, the 2012 Democrat Party Platform states: "Democrats will continue to stand up to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood health centers. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right. Abortion is an intensely personal decision between a woman, her family, her doctor, and her clergy; there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way." In other words, the Democrat Party has pledged its support to keep Planned Parenthood aborting unborn children. This is not Christian in any form. Yet many Christians in the Black Community see no problem supporting the Democrat Party in this area.

Homosexuality

"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads (Leviticus 20:13)."

On the subject of homosexuality, Bishop Jackson says, "The Democrat Party has equated homosexuality with being Black, which is another outrageous lie! They can keep their homosexuality private. You and I cannot hide being black." Regarding this issue, the 2012 Democrat Platform pledges it support of homosexuality in the context of "Gay Marriage." The Platform reads: "We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference." While I am glad to see they support the religious freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how they will treat marriage, they have already shown that as a Party, they support the sin of homosexuality. As a Christian, the Bible is not only clear on what is homosexuality, a detestable sin, it is also clear as to what is the definition of marriage. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh (Genesis 2:24)." Again, Christians in the Black Community are supporting the Democrat Party's condoning of sin and the redefining of marriage when they vote Democrat. This is made even more disheartening given the havoc being wreaked on Black families with the broken homes caused by the lack of fathers being in them.

God

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord (Psalm 33:12)."

One final point that Bishop Jackson makes is regarding God, in general. He says, "What do you call it when Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins and my sins and paid the price for our freedom, and you join and covenant with a political Party that doesn't even want God mentioned in their platform?" According to CBN News, in 2008, the Democrat Platform read: "We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.” However, in 2012, the Platform read, "We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.” God was removed. In all fairness, the term "God-given" was reinstated into the platform in a controversial move by the Democrat Party leaders. But, the damage was done. While the use of "God-given" is a generic term that doesn't identify a particular deity, the fact that it was removed by a Party that promotes the sins of abortion and homosexuality while redefining the marriage at the same time, is telling. Yet again, Christians in the Black Community will have no problem supporting the Democrat Party in the voting booth.

In conclusion, these are just a few of the things that led to my leaving the Democrat Party. While I am personally conservative in my view of politics, because I believe it to be more in line with the Bible, that doesn't mean that any other Party, particularly the Republican Party, has a monopoly on promoting a Biblical worldview. Furthermore, while the focus of Bishop Jackson's video are Black Christians, his words should speak to all Christians. In my opinion, godlessness has a home in the Democrat Party and as Bishop Jackson concludes in his video, it is time to "Exodus Now."
