The founder of eHarmony, the online dating service, is Neil Clark Warren. When promoting his company's service, he likes to put down the competition by saying, "Other sites give you a picture and a paragraph." Now whether this approach is effective or not is up to those that use the services of eHarmony and the other dating sites. However, when I hear the phrase "a picture and a paragraph," it reminds me of a photo of me as a young boy taken by my father at the local Natural History Museum. I noticed I was standing in front of a display of some sort that contained artists renderings the origins of life, supposedly, thousands and millions of years ago. Of course, with each display came a synopsis of what it was representing. It made me think about all the so-called evidence used by proponents of the theory of evolution. Like Neil Clark Warren, they use a picture and a paragraph to promote their beliefs as fact.
Think about it. When you last visited a museum, most likely steeped in evolutionary thought, what did you see when you were there? You probably saw pictures, or fancy displays using modern special effects technology, that led you to believe that the earth, man and all the inhabitants of the planet developed through evolutionary processes. But, that is just the point. You saw pictures, special effects, artist renderings and so on all promoted as though what they were showing you was fact. It is the product of someones imagination. And all the writings and narrations are geared towards making you believe what you are seeing and hearing is the truth. Add to that what you see in movies, on television, and what is taught in schools, and you have the perfect machine designed to have everyone believing in evolution as fact. But there is something even more dangerous that this brings up.
"They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen." Romans 1:25
Evolutionists like to say that teaching scientific creationism is akin to allowing religion into the schools. Well, I would submit that they are already teaching religion in schools; the religion of Evolution. Evolutionists have their own god, the Creation. They have their own idea of how mankind came into being; molecules to man. They have their own messianic figure in Charles Darwin. They have their own "word of God" in Darwin's book, "The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life. Yes, that is the full title. Makes you think for a minute when you see that, right? "They have their apostles in people like Carl Sagan and Richard Dawkins. And we all know they have millions of "disciples" from all walks of life. Evolutionists like to criticize Christians and those that believe in creation as being closed minded and believing in a creative process that is not scientific. The funny thing is that they have the same evidence available to them as a creationists does. The difference is how we each believe that evidence came into existence. You would think that if the evolutionists are right in their belief, and have the facts on their side, then they would have no problem allowing an alternative point of view, like scientific creationism, to be taught. After all, if scientific creationism is, indeed, wrong, then it would fail under intense scrutiny and would soon disappear.
"When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. Then he addressed them: "Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God." Acts 5:33-39
When Peter and the other apostles testified about Jesus Christ in front of the Sanhedrin, those in opposition to their message wanted them put to death. However, as we read above, one of the Pharisees said that if what they speak is of God then you will not be able to silence it. That is what an evolutionist must ask themselves. If what they promote is of "god" then nothing can silence it. Throughout recorded history, the Bible and the followers of Jesus Christ have faced all sorts of persecution and attempts to be silenced. Many have faced death in the process. Yet, the message of salvation in Jesus Christ and the truth of Scripture has withstood all challenges. A Christian has no problem allowing opposing views to be aired up against the truth of scripture. We know that God's Word will not lose. Perhaps evolutionists know that their beliefs cannot stand up to the scrutiny so they become furious and want any opposing views silenced. I think it is because they know that what they proclaim is of human origin and is doomed to fail. Christians don't have the fallacy of "a picture and a paragraph" as evidence of our faith. We have the eyewitness testimony of the one true God, who was there, and has left infallible proofs of His creative powers and His existence. And His ultimate evidence is the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. And as Peter so eloquently put it:
"We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty." 2 Peter 1:16
Amen!

There is a book by Timothy Keller "A Reason For God" that, in my opinion, correctly makes this same argument. Essentially, we as Christians, believe that we were created by God and in his image. (Genesis 1:26) They on the other hand, believe in evolution- or other reasons for our existence- and yet they don't realize that in itself is a belief system. They want us to believe that we evolved from apes- yet there are still apes and no "being" that is halfway evolved between ape and man- or even worse- there are no fish out there that have legs but have yet to develop fully into a man- but somehow we are to believe their "faith" in that argument? And they laugh at our beliefs? The beauty, complexity, reality and perfect balance of our very existence tends to point to a master planner and creator- in essence God. Oh well- we must keep them in our prayers. Good blog- keep up the good work.
